Warehouse jobs fell sharply in July while truck transportation employment remained unchanged after downward revisions.
US truck transportation employment held steady at 1.4651 million jobs in July, unchanged from February after a 1,500-job downward revision for June. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported no net gain despite initial data suggesting a 100-job increase, following a 200-job revision for May.
Warehouse employment declined by 9,500 jobs to 1.8346 million, marking a 1.8% drop since July 2025. The sector saw larger declines in September and October 2025, with losses of 16,000 and 13,500 jobs, respectively.
Economists noted long-distance truckload employment grew for four consecutive months through June, though regulatory challenges persist. Spot rate increases and demand growth have not translated into significant job expansion in the sector.
