Uber partners with Pony.ai to deploy over 2,000 robotaxis, targeting margin growth as driver costs hit $25 billion annually.
Uber will expand its robotaxi fleet to more than 2,000 vehicles across Europe through a partnership with Pony.ai, building on a 2025 agreement. The rollout begins in Zagreb and extends to four additional cities, with plans to enter the Middle East.
The move follows Uber’s $58 billion in Q2 gross bookings, where $25 billion went to its 10.2 million drivers, its largest expense. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi aims to double autonomous vehicle operations to 15 cities by 2026, backed by a $10 billion commitment to partners.
Uber’s monthly active users grew 16% year-over-year, reinforcing its platform’s scale as it shifts toward autonomous rides to boost margins.
