The U.S. government committed $2 billion in CHIPS Act grants to nine quantum computing firms, marking its largest single investment in the sector. The funding, announced in May, includes equity stakes in return for research and development support.

President Donald Trump signed two executive orders on Monday, prioritizing quantum computing for economic and national security. One order mandates a scientifically relevant quantum computer for the Department of Energy by 2028, while the other accelerates migration to post-quantum cryptography standards to counter cyber threats.

Three publicly traded companies—IBM (NYSE: IBM), Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON), and IonQ (NYSE: IONQ)—are positioned to benefit from the government’s timeline and funding. These firms are not pure quantum plays but align with federal mandates and investment priorities.
