The S&P 500’s top 10 stocks now represent more than 40% of the index’s total value, up from 23% in 2000. This surge is driven by the “Magnificent Seven” tech giants, which alone comprise roughly one-third of the index’s weight.

Over the past three years, the S&P 500 has risen nearly 77%, while the Nasdaq Composite has climbed 94%, fueled by AI-driven valuations and outsized gains in large-cap tech. The concentration surpasses levels seen during the dot-com bubble, though analysts argue current valuations remain justified.

Despite concerns over market concentration, historical trends suggest long-term investors may still benefit from maintaining exposure to the index.
