PepsiCo reintroduces a limited-run version of its discontinued Mountain Dew Real Sugar, testing consumer demand for retro formulations.
PepsiCo has quietly brought back Mountain Dew Real Sugar, a discontinued soda variant, to select stores. The product, previously marketed as Mountain Dew Throwback, replaces high-fructose corn syrup with real sugar and uses retro branding, aligning with consumer preferences for classic formulations.
The brand first launched in 2009 but was later discontinued. Its return follows a broader trend of companies reviving discontinued products in response to dedicated fanbases, such as Coca-Cola’s TaB and Classic Coke. However, PepsiCo has not confirmed plans for a full-scale relaunch.
Availability remains limited, and the move appears to be a test of market interest rather than a permanent comeback. The revival reflects shifting consumer tastes toward simpler, nostalgia-driven products.
