Microsoft shares are on track for their worst monthly decline since December 2000, dropping approximately 17% in June. The sell-off has wiped out $570 billion in market capitalization, reflecting broader pressure on Big Tech stocks.

The last comparable monthly loss occurred in December 2000, when shares fell 24.4%. If Microsoft closes June with a decline worse than 16.56%, it would mark the steepest drop since the 2008 financial crisis. The tech sector has outperformed the S&P 500 this year, but mega-cap leaders like Microsoft have struggled recently.

Investors have sold off Microsoft amid concerns that AI advancements could reduce demand for traditional software. The company’s heavy AI investment has yet to offset these worries, contributing to the stock’s underperformance.
