The lender, built on an AI-native platform, begins services with 75,000 pre-registered users and no legacy systems.
Jet Bank has commenced digital-only banking operations in Albania, offering mobile-based accounts, savings, and foreign exchange services. The bank, licensed by the Bank of Albania in March 2026, was developed without legacy infrastructure, using Backbase’s AI-native platform completed by a 70-person team in six months.
The lender attracted over 75,000 users on its waiting list before launch, with accounts now being activated in stages. Services include multi-currency accounts, term deposits, and virtual debit cards, all managed remotely via its mobile app.
Backbase CEO Jouk Pleiter noted the achievement as a model for AI-era banking, contrasting it with traditional banks reliant on fragmented legacy systems. The launch reflects growing demand for digital financial services in emerging markets.
