Ireland’s government implemented its first National Anti-Money Laundering Strategy on August 13, 2026, targeting crypto-asset transfers. The rules require enhanced checks on private crypto wallets and stricter oversight of overseas crypto firms, per the EU Transfer of Funds Regulation.

Most of the regulation had already been adopted, but the remaining provisions mandate compliance with the FATF travel rule, ensuring transaction details accompany transfers. The strategy follows a 30-point action plan from June, reinforcing safeguards in digital finance.

The measures align with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, which categorizes crypto-asset service providers under regulatory oversight. No immediate market reaction was reported.
