Infleqtion, a quantum computing firm that went public in February, briefly achieved a $6 billion market capitalization in April. The company is positioning itself as a direct competitor to IonQ, which has dominated the sector with its ionized ytterbium-based quantum systems.

Both firms use entire atoms for quantum computing, reducing manufacturing costs and defect risks. However, IonQ leads in accuracy, achieving 99.99% two-qubit gate fidelity in October, while Infleqtion reports 99.73%. Despite the gap, Infleqtion’s rapid market entry and valuation surge signal growing competition in the quantum computing space.

The rivalry highlights the sector’s expansion, with startups leveraging different atomic approaches to challenge established players.
