Billionaire tech tycoon Elon Musk once again revived the discussion around the popular fast food chain McDonald’s Corp. accepting Dogecoin (DOGE) payments at its restaurants.
It was on Jan. 25, 2022 that Musk said on X (then Twitter) that he would eat a McDonald’s Happy Meal live on television if the chain accepts Dogecoin payments
Dogecoin is a popular meme coin that started as a joke on the hype surrounding Bitcoin (BTC), the first decentralized cryptocurrency. But it became so popular that it turned out to be among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap. Musk has repeatedly heaped praise on Dogecoin, calling it the “people’s crypto” back in 2021.
Around the same time, he remarked that his company SpaceX is going to “put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon.” Both SpaceX and Tesla (Nasdaq: TSLA) have previously embraced Dogecoin payments for select merchandise. Musk’s posts referencing Dogecoin once used to spur wild price rallies for the meme coin.
