A 2011 Bitcoin address holding 35.55 BTC transferred funds after receiving a legal notice in a New York lawsuit targeting 3.8 million BTC.
A Bitcoin wallet inactive since March 2011 transferred 15 BTC to a new address this week, following a legal notice demanding proof of ownership by November 5, 2025. The wallet, part of a $285 billion lawsuit, holds 35.55 BTC valued at $2.54 million.
The lawsuit, filed by a pseudonymous plaintiff and two Wyoming LLCs, seeks control of 39,069 dormant wallets under New York’s lost-property statute. Defendants were notified via OP_RETURN transactions on the blockchain, a method used to embed legal notices.
The move coincides with a Bitcoin price decline and suggests some Satoshi-era coins, presumed abandoned, remain actively controlled. Another 2011-era address also transferred funds this week.
