BMW has completed a $1.7 billion investment to expand electric vehicle production at its U.S. plants in South Carolina. The upgrades include the Spartanburg main plant and a new facility in Woodruff, positioning the company for EV manufacturing starting in late 2026.

The Spartanburg plant, which exports roughly half its output, primarily serves European SUV markets. BMW plans to assemble at least six fully electric models in the U.S. by 2030, beginning with the iX5 SUV. The move aligns with recent EU approval to reduce duties on U.S. imports.

CEO Milan Nedeljkovic stated the investment underscores confidence in the U.S. market and strengthens South Carolina’s role in BMW’s global operations.
