Balfour Beatty has secured a £121m ($160m) contract to expand the Bramford 400kV substation in Suffolk for National Grid. The four-year project is part of the wider Bramford to Twinstead initiative under the Great Grid Upgrade program.

The extension will add four circuits, including two grid supply points and two shunt reactors, to enhance reliability and efficiency. It follows National Grid’s EPC Framework and aims to support increased transmission capacity in East Anglia.

Completion is expected to improve regional network resilience and facilitate the transition to low-carbon energy. Balfour Beatty will handle design, installation, and system integration for monitoring and control.
