Augustus, a fintech startup focused on stablecoin infrastructure, announced a $180 million Series B funding round valuing the company at $1 billion. The round was led by Tiger Global, with participation from fintech and crypto industry figures, including founders of Nubank, Ramp, Circle, and Deel, as well as former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan.

The company has raised $210 million to date and is building a federally chartered “Global Dollar Bank” to facilitate cross-border transactions using both traditional and blockchain rails. Augustus aims to address correspondent banking inefficiencies without issuing its own stablecoin, positioning itself as a bridge between conventional finance and digital assets.

The funding highlights growing institutional interest in stablecoin-based financial infrastructure, framed as a response to geopolitical developments like China’s digital yuan and Russia’s proposed BRICS Pay system. Augustus holds a conditional national bank charter from the OCC, underscoring its regulatory ambitions.
