Google parent Alphabet replaces Verizon in the Dow Jones, expanding the index’s exposure to tech and AI sectors.

Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) will join the Dow Jones Industrial Average on June 29, replacing Verizon Communications. The move adds a major player in advertising, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence to the 30-stock index, which serves as a key market barometer.

The Dow includes only 30 companies out of thousands listed on the New York Stock Exchange, covering sectors like technology, finance, and consumer goods. Alphabet’s inclusion reflects its dominant position in digital advertising and rapid growth in cloud services, which saw 63% revenue growth in Q1.

Alphabet’s dividend yield remains low at 0.3%, as the company prioritizes AI infrastructure investments over payout expansion. The change does not immediately alter the index’s broader sector balance but increases its tech weighting.
