Japanese fastener maker YKK will build a $150m plant in Tamil Nadu to meet rising domestic and export demand.

YKK Corporation will invest $150m in a new manufacturing facility in southern India, set to open in February 2028. The plant, located in Chennai’s Origins by Mahindra industrial park, will cover 150,000m² and incorporate advanced production technologies.

The project marks YKK’s third factory in India, following two existing sites in Haryana. The company aims to address growing demand from India’s domestic market and export-focused manufacturers, while expanding local employment and supply chain capabilities.

YKK’s Indian subsidiary, established in 1995, previously announced a $52m expansion in Haryana last December. The new facility is expected to enhance production flexibility for a broader range of customer needs.
