Unprecedented 8.1 billion Dollars in selling drives USD/JPY down 2.31% in ten minutes without official confirmation of intervention.

The Japanese Yen surged 2.31% against the Dollar in minutes, pushing USD/JPY from near 164.00 to just above 159.50. The move erased over five Yen, breaching the 50-day Exponential Moving Average without resistance and halting near the 200-day EMA at 158.00.

No scheduled economic data explained the scale of the drop. Earlier U.S. GDP growth missed expectations at 1.5% versus a 2.1% consensus, while core PCE inflation came in at 0.1% month-over-month. The Yen’s strength extended to other currencies, with the Euro, Pound, and Australian Dollar all falling roughly 2% in the same window.

Trading desks recorded 8.1 billion Dollars in selling across core venues within ten minutes. The Ministry of Finance, typically responsible for intervention, remained silent, leaving the move unconfirmed but consistent with past intervention patterns.
