State Street’s Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) undercuts Invesco’s S&P 500 Equal Weight Consumer Staples ETF (RSPS) with a 0.08% expense ratio versus 0.4%. XLP’s market-cap weighting favors large-cap staples like Walmart and Costco, which dominate its top holdings.

Both funds hold 35 overlapping stocks, but XLP’s structure aligns with traditional sector benchmarks, while RSPS balances exposure to prevent concentration. RSPS offers a slightly higher dividend yield of 2.8%, compared to XLP’s 2.5%.

Consumer staples ETFs serve as defensive plays during volatility, with XLP’s lower costs and established dominance appealing to cost-conscious investors.
