The autonomous vehicle partnership will debut its first Swiss commercial robotaxi service via the Uber app, pending regulatory approval.
WeRide and Uber will introduce a commercial robotaxi service in Greater Zurich later this year, accessible through the Uber app. The deployment follows regulatory clearance from Switzerland’s Federal Roads Office, which granted WeRide a driverless permit in November 2024 for operations in Zurich’s Furttal region.
This marks the companies’ second European launch in two weeks, following a recent expansion into Madrid. The Zurich service will use WeRide’s universal technology platform and simulation tools, with fleet management handled by local operator Rydera under an asset-light model. Fleet size will scale incrementally as operational targets are met.
The partners plan to transition to fully driverless operations in core urban areas, leveraging Zurich’s status as a premium mobility market. WeRide’s CFO highlighted Europe as a priority region for rapid expansion, aligning with the company’s global scaling strategy.
