Vanguard’s tech-focused ETF surges on AI-driven megacap stocks, doubling the S&P 500’s 10.3% year-to-date return.

The Vanguard Information Technology ETF (VGT) has delivered a 23.3% return in 2026, more than double the S&P 500’s 10.3% gain. The ETF’s performance is driven by its heavy exposure to trillion-dollar tech giants at the forefront of the artificial intelligence boom.

VGT holds 323 stocks but allocates 50.6% of its portfolio to just five companies: Nvidia ($5.1 trillion), Apple ($4.7 trillion), Microsoft ($2.9 trillion), Broadcom ($1.9 trillion), and Micron ($1.05 trillion). These stocks have consistently outperformed the broader market, fueling the ETF’s strong returns.

The S&P 500’s 10.3% gain reflects recent volatility, while VGT’s concentrated tech holdings have amplified its outperformance. Portfolio weightings are as of May 31, 2026.
