Vaxcyte begins Phase 1 study for Group A Streptococcus vaccine, targeting topline data in late 2027.
Vaxcyte Inc. (NASDAQ:PCVX) has initiated dosing in its Phase 1 trial for VAX-A1, an investigational vaccine targeting Group A Streptococcus. The first participant received the dose in the study, which aims to assess safety and tolerability in healthy adults aged 18 to 40 years.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial will evaluate three dose levels in approximately 80 adults across two stages. Stage 1 involves 12 participants, while Stage 2 will expand to 68, pending safety approval. Topline data is expected in the second half of 2027.
Group A Streptococcus causes a range of diseases with no approved vaccine currently available. Vaxcyte executives highlighted the trial as a key step in addressing a global public health challenge.
