Analysts project VOO will close its $21 billion gap through inflows and market gains before December.

Vanguard’s S&P 500 ETF (VOO) sits at $979 billion in assets, $21 billion below its June record of $1 trillion. A 2% gain or continued inflows could push it past the threshold by year-end.

The fund attracted $69 billion in the first five months of 2026, averaging $14 billion monthly. Competitors iShares Core S&P 500 ETF and SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust hold $860 billion and $786 billion, respectively.

Market performance and investor inflows are expected to drive the recovery, with arithmetic projections suggesting a return to $1 trillion without requiring a major rally.
