VOO surpasses $1 trillion milestone as tech concentration in the S&P 500 raises stability concerns among investors.

The Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (VOO) reached a historic $1 trillion in assets, becoming the first exchange-traded fund to achieve the milestone. The fund’s growth reflects its popularity as a core holding in investor portfolios, driven by the S&P 500’s strong performance.

The S&P 500’s composition has shifted significantly, with the “Magnificent Seven” tech stocks—Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Tesla—now accounting for over one-third of the index’s value as of June 2026. This concentration raises questions about the index’s stability, historically valued for diversification.

Potential additions of mega-IPOs like SpaceX, OpenAI, and Anthropic could further tilt the index toward big tech, amplifying both growth potential and risk exposure.
