The dairy producer will close its Oulu facility, affecting up to 140 jobs, as part of broader consolidation efforts amid declining sales.
Finland’s Valio will cease production at its Oulu plant by mid-2028, shifting output to three other domestic sites. The move aims to boost efficiency and profitability amid falling volumes and rising costs, the company said.
The Oulu facility, which employs around 300 workers, produces milk, fermented products, ice cream, and plant-based semi-finished goods. Valio expects up to 140 redundancies but will offer alternative roles at other locations. Staff consultations begin 25 May and will last three weeks.
Valio has been consolidating operations for two years, following a similar closure in 2023. The company cited persistent market challenges as the driver behind the restructuring.
