Major US indices reversed early gains, with the Dow closing lower while the S&P 500 and NASDAQ posted modest advances.
US stock indices closed mixed after surrendering most of their early-session gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 81.01 points, or 0.16%, to 50,791.07, erasing a 410-point intraday rally as sellers dominated late trading.
The S&P 500 and NASDAQ managed slight gains, though both gave up significant early advances. The S&P 500 rose 21.99 points, or 0.30%, to 9,405.72, after peaking 83.08 points higher. The NASDAQ closed up 220.23 points, or 0.86%, at 25,929.66, well below its 470-point session high.
The pullback reflects cautious sentiment, as buyers failed to sustain momentum despite a strong open. Traders appeared reluctant to chase prices higher into the close.
