The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on two Iranian crypto exchanges, Shelbit and Aban Tether, accusing them of helping Iran move funds outside traditional banking channels. The action aims to disrupt financing for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a designated terrorist organization.

The move extends a 2026 crackdown on Iranian digital asset networks, including Nobitex and wallets linked to Iran’s central bank. Treasury data shows over $1 million in crypto flowed from IRGC-linked wallets to Shelbit, while $2 million moved in the opposite direction.

Stablecoin issuers and exchanges handling funds tied to Iranian entities face heightened scrutiny amid escalating US-Iran tensions. The sanctions block all US-based assets and transactions involving the designated entities.
