The US oil and gas rig count climbed this week, driven by a 4-unit increase in oil rigs to 429, according to industry data. The total rig count now stands at 562, nearly unchanged from a year ago but reflecting a shift toward oil drilling amid higher prices.

Gas rigs remained flat at 125, up 16 from the same period last year, while miscellaneous rigs held steady at 8. Oil rigs, however, remain 22 below last year’s level despite the recent uptick.

The data suggests drillers are reacting to recent price movements, though overall activity remains subdued compared to prior years.
