Public officials barred from issuing tokens until 2029
The proposed CLARITY Act includes ethics rules that would temporarily ban public officials from issuing or sponsoring tokens.
The ban would expire on January 20, 2029, and would be enforced by the US Attorney General.
The act also addresses concerns over President Trump’s crypto ventures, which earned him more than $1.4 billion in 2025.
The bill still needs support from several Democratic lawmakers to meet a 60-vote threshold.
