US and Iranian officials report minimal progress in negotiations, with Iran’s stance unchanged despite recent military tensions. Tehran continues to demand financial relief, reparations, and a role in Strait of Hormuz oversight while refusing to suspend its nuclear program. The US halted planned strikes this week but warned further action remains possible, citing over 20,000 targets already struck in Iran without shifting its position.

Prior discussions saw no breakthroughs, and regional sources indicate additional strikes could occur as early as next week. Iran has retaliated by disrupting shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and launching drones at Gulf states, including a strike on the UAE’s Barakah nuclear facility. The UAE intercepted six drones in the past 48 hours, heightening concerns over energy market stability and oil supply routes.

Vice President JD Vance noted Iran’s apparent interest in a deal but emphasized uncertainty until an agreement is finalized. The conflict’s escalation risks broader regional instability, with global energy markets closely monitoring developments.
