The US House of Representatives failed to pass a bill restricting President Trump’s war powers over Iran, ending in a 212-212 tie. Three Republicans defected to support the measure, the highest number of GOP defections on the issue to date.

The Pentagon reported the Iran conflict has cost $29 billion, up from $25 billion the previous month. The vote reflects growing Republican unease as gas prices and prolonged military spending strain party unity ahead of midterm elections.

The Senate has rejected similar legislation seven times since the conflict began. Iran’s leverage in peace talks remains strong due to its control over commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
