The US direct investment abroad position climbed $438.1 billion to $7.14 trillion at the end of 2025. The increase was primarily fueled by a $350.2 billion rise in investments in Europe, with the UK and Luxembourg leading the gains.

Manufacturing, particularly chemical manufacturing, saw the largest industry-specific increase. Meanwhile, foreign direct investment in the US rose $266.0 billion to $5.86 trillion, with Europe again driving growth, led by German and Canadian multinationals.

The manufacturing sector, especially electrical equipment and components, recorded the highest gains in foreign direct investment in the US.
