The Conference Board’s index fell for a third month as consumers grew less optimistic about business and labor conditions ahead.

US consumer confidence declined to 90.8 in July from a revised 92.2 in June, marking a continued downward trend since late 2021. The drop reflects softer assessments of current business and labor market conditions, alongside subdued expectations for the next six months.

The Present Situation Index weakened for the third straight month, while the Expectations Index remained in negative territory. Consumers anticipate minimal improvement in business conditions but slightly less pessimism about the labor market. Income expectations moderated but stayed positive overall.

The US Dollar showed mixed movement near 101.50 as investors weighed the data against Middle East developments and Federal Reserve policy bets.
