Preliminary data shows US consumer confidence climbed to 54.4, exceeding expectations and reflecting improved economic outlook.
US consumer sentiment rebounded in early July, with the University of Michigan’s Consumer Sentiment Index rising to 54.4 from 49.5 in June. The increase surpassed economists’ forecasts, driven by stronger assessments of current conditions and future expectations.
The Current Conditions index advanced to 54.9 from 47.7, while the Expectations gauge climbed to 54.0 from 50.7. Inflation expectations showed mixed signals, with the one-year outlook easing to 4.2% from 4.6% and the five-year forecast unchanged at 3.3%.
The dollar held steady following the release, with the US Dollar Index (DXY) hovering near 100.80 amid broader market volatility.
