Unilever reaches agreements with European staff on job protections as it prepares to divest most food assets to McCormick & Co.
Unilever has agreed to commitments with European workers on employment terms ahead of selling most of its food business to McCormick & Co. for $44.8bn. The deal, announced in March, excludes operations in India, Nepal, Portugal, and select nutrition units, with completion expected by mid-2025.
The agreements cover protections for employees’ terms and conditions and consultation timelines, extending two years post-transaction in 2027. Unilever has not disclosed details on the number of production facilities involved or their locations outside Europe.
Progress follows weeks of constructive engagement with European and national works councils, though consultations will continue through the summer to address remaining topics.
