UK foreign exchange markets reached a new high in April 2026, with average daily turnover climbing to $4,609 billion, a 20% increase from October 2025. The rise marks a 14% year-on-year gain compared to April 2025, reflecting broad-based growth across all FX instruments.
FX swaps led the increase, rising by $332 billion to $2,172 billion daily. Spot transactions grew 18% to $1,253 billion, while FX options surged 49% to $309 billion. The USD/EUR pair remained the most traded, accounting for 24% of total turnover at $1,094 billion daily.
The data underscores the UK’s role as a global FX hub, with turnover nearly tripling since April 2008, when daily volumes stood at $1,815 billion.
