President Trump canceled plans to sign a housing affordability bill after it included a provision banning the Federal Reserve from issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) or similar digital assets until 2030. The bill, passed by the House on Tuesday, also exempted stablecoins from the restriction, allowing private, permissionless dollar-denominated digital currencies to operate freely.

The legislation had been expected to proceed without issue, but Trump linked its signing to the passage of the SAVE America Act, which mandates in-person proof of citizenship for voter registration. The delay introduces uncertainty into housing policy and digital currency regulation, key areas for financial markets and payment systems.

No immediate market reaction was reported, though the move could impact Fed policy discussions and stablecoin adoption timelines.
