Thailand’s securities regulator seeks feedback on draft regulations allowing spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs on the local exchange.

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has released draft rules for locally listed spot Bitcoin (BTC) and Ether (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The proposals follow an April consultation where most respondents supported the framework but raised concerns over custody arrangements, prompting revisions.

Under the draft regulations, asset managers could launch passive ETFs tracking BTC or ETH, the only eligible crypto assets. The funds would trade exclusively on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), with each ETF limited to a single crypto asset. The SEC is also revising qualifications for foreign digital asset custodians used by mutual and private funds.

The move aligns with Thailand’s goal to become a global digital asset hub for institutional investors. Feedback on the consultation papers is open, with no timeline specified for final implementation.
