Bernstein analysts say most Bitcoin miners in Texas have secured power contracts, shielding them from the state’s data center moratorium.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s moratorium on new ERCOT-linked data center approvals will not significantly affect Bitcoin miners, Bernstein analysts said. The directive orders an audit of data centers seeking grid connections amid public concerns over rapid expansion, but miners with existing power contracts remain unaffected.
Most BTC mining operations in Texas have already secured approved electric capacity, reducing exposure to the moratorium. Bernstein noted the audit may slow speculative data center projects but could benefit established sites with development history and community ties.
The analysts highlighted that mining firms like Cipher Digital, Core Scientific, and CleanSpark have long-term infrastructure and local partnerships, positioning them favorably despite regulatory scrutiny.
