The wallet integrates with Telegram’s 1 billion monthly active users, expanding self-custody and peer-to-peer crypto payments access.
Telegram will introduce a native Gram crypto wallet, leveraging its 1 billion monthly active users. The move could significantly broaden adoption of self-custody and peer-to-peer crypto transactions, far exceeding most standalone crypto apps in potential reach.
The announcement follows The Open Network’s rebrand of its native token from Toncoin to Gram, aligning with Telegram’s original 2018 white paper. Telegram abandoned its initial blockchain project in 2020 after an SEC settlement but has since deepened ties with the TON ecosystem.
The Gram rebrand is part of a broader strategy to embed crypto services and Web3 functionality within Telegram’s platform. No immediate market reaction was reported.
