PayPal receives a $53 billion buyout proposal from Stripe and Advent International, valuing shares at $60.50 amid a turnaround effort.
Privately held fintech Stripe and private equity firm Advent International jointly offered to acquire PayPal for approximately $53 billion, or $60.50 per share. The bid represents a 30% premium over PayPal’s July 10 closing price but trails its early December levels.
PayPal’s stock surged over 17% following the news, closing at $55.52 on July 15. The company reported $6.4 billion in free cash flow last year and held $13.5 billion in cash and equivalents at the end of Q1, raising questions about the offer’s adequacy.
PayPal is mid-turnaround under new CEO Enrique Lores, appointed in February. Leadership changes typically require time to assess impact, complicating near-term acquisition decisions.
