GBP/USD falls to April lows as oil price declines overshadow Bank of England’s shift toward tighter policy.

The British Pound Sterling declined to its lowest level since early April, slipping below 1.3300 against the US Dollar, despite the Bank of England maintaining a hawkish stance. A second member of the Monetary Policy Committee joined calls to raise the Bank Rate, signaling growing support for tighter policy.

Markets had anticipated the BoE’s decision to hold rates steady, but the move failed to support Sterling. Falling crude oil prices, which reduce inflationary pressures, appear to have weighed more heavily on the currency than the central bank’s hawkish signals.

The drop reflects investor focus on broader macroeconomic factors, including energy costs, rather than immediate monetary policy shifts.
