The insurer will slash compensation and benefits for 19,000 agents while requiring AI adoption under new contracts effective 2027.
State Farm will replace contracts for its 19,000 independent agents, cutting pay and benefits while mandating AI tool usage for those remaining past 2027. The changes eliminate deferred compensation and health coverage, with earnings potentially dropping up to 40% for some agents.
The new agreements restructure commission rates and introduce sales benchmarks, penalizing agents who fall short in consecutive years. Agents specializing in home and auto renewals or with long tenure face the steepest reductions, raising concerns about staffing and overhead costs.
State Farm framed the move as part of its “Next Gen Good Neighbor” initiative, integrating AI tools like Navi and Household Story into agent workflows. The company is also piloting an AI virtual assistant to handle initial customer inquiries.
