Chun Wang, controlling 11.3% of Bitcoin’s hashrate and holding over $300 million in BTC, will lead SpaceX’s first commercial Mars flight in 2026.
SpaceX has appointed Chun Wang, co-founder of F2Pool and a major Bitcoin miner controlling 11.3% of the network’s hashrate, as commander for its first commercial human mission to Mars. The two-year mission, slated for 2026, will test Starship V3 architecture and deep-space operations critical to Elon Musk’s goal of transporting a million people to Mars.
Wang, a crypto investor with personal Bitcoin holdings exceeding $300 million, will take a two-year leave from F2Pool. The mission includes a circumlunar flyby, a high-altitude Mars flyby, and a complex return trajectory, with data aimed at supporting rapid Starship reuse and large-scale cargo transport.
The announcement coincides with SpaceX’s pursuit of a record-breaking IPO and disclosure of significant Bitcoin holdings, linking the mission to broader financial and technological ambitions.
