The S&P 500 erased earlier gains, dropping 0.19% as profit-taking and broad selling pressure intensified in the final trading hour.
The S&P 500 reversed course to trade 14 points lower, or 0.19%, after peaking at a 55.53-point gain earlier in the session. Selling pressure accelerated late in the day, erasing most of the morning rally as investors locked in profits and sentiment shifted bearish ahead of the close.
The NASDAQ Composite, which surged nearly 300 points at its high, pared gains to just 1.75 points before a slight rebound. The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw an even sharper reversal, swinging from a 266-point gain to a 364-point loss before trimming some declines. The pullback reflects waning optimism as buyers retreated and sellers regained control.
Among the session’s biggest losers, Whirlpool fell $1.76 to $36.48, while Chipotle Mexican Grill declined $1.33 to $33.12. First Solar dropped $7.30 to $204.69, and Tesla slid $10.82 to $370.02, underscoring the broad-based sell-off.
