Samsung and SK Hynix lead a $880 billion spending plan to expand chip and data center capacity amid rising AI demand.
South Korea’s Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are driving an $880 billion investment to boost semiconductor and AI data center production. The move follows SK Hynix’s Nasdaq debut, where it raised $26.5 billion from U.S. investors last week, underscoring strong demand for AI-related chips.
The companies, key suppliers of memory chips for AI infrastructure, announced the investment in June alongside other South Korean firms. The spending reflects expectations of sustained growth in AI-driven markets, with both firms positioned as critical players in global supply chains.
