The appointment strengthens leadership in Sonoco’s largest global division as it consolidates operations under one structure.
Sonoco Products Company has appointed Francesco Giannolo as vice-president and general manager for its EMEA consumer packaging business. The move follows the recent consolidation of Sonoco’s global consumer packaging operations, which generate $5.2bn in annual sales and employ 11,250 staff across 25 countries.
Giannolo, who joined Sonoco in 2019, previously led the company’s rigid paper containers business in EMEA. He reports to Ernest Haynes, head of the unified global consumer packaging segment, which accounts for the bulk of Sonoco’s $7.5bn in net sales.
The company stated the appointment aims to enhance innovation, productivity, and customer service in the EMEA region. Giannolo brings 23 years of packaging industry experience, including roles at Crown Packaging and Amcor.
