The NYSE-listed space tech firm expands into microgravity research with a new agriculture mission on the International Space Station.
Redwire Corporation (NYSE:RDW) secured a contract from Astrobiome Space to launch its first commercial space agriculture mission using its Greenhouse system on the International Space Station. The mission will test strawberry cultivation and Astrobiome’s soil-enhancement product, marking Redwire’s entry into commercial biological research.
The contract follows a strong first-quarter performance, with Redwire reporting $97.0 million in revenue, up 57.9% year over year. The company also disclosed a record backlog of $498.1 million and a 1.92 book-to-bill ratio, alongside a gross margin improvement to 26.6%. Despite remaining unprofitable, the growth reflects rising demand for space infrastructure and microgravity research.
Redwire’s expansion into commercial biological research diversifies its revenue streams beyond traditional space infrastructure contracts. The mission underscores the company’s push into high-value microgravity applications, aligning with broader industry trends in space-based R&D.
