A June disclosure by the US Office of Government Ethics showed former President Donald Trump earned $1.4 billion from crypto-related investments in 2025, including stakes in World Liberty Financial and the memecoin Official Trump (TRUMP). The report has drawn criticism from lawmakers and the public, with a recent poll indicating most Americans question the appropriateness of these holdings.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer introduced legislation in July to establish a federal agency targeting corruption, citing Trump’s crypto ventures as a concern. The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, aimed at clarifying regulatory oversight for digital assets, is set for a cloture vote on September 15. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency recently approved World Liberty Financial for a trust charter.

Trump addressed crypto industry leaders at a White House press conference, urging Senate action on the bill. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly has denied conflicts of interest, though calls for investigations persist.
