The People’s Bank of China set the USD/CNY reference rate at 6.7873 for today, stronger than the Reuters estimate of 6.7382. This marks the yuan’s strongest fixing since February 8, 2023, as the central bank maintains a tight grip on currency movements.

The PBOC allows the yuan to trade within a 2% band around the daily fix. The move follows recent efforts to stabilize the currency amid external pressures, including a stronger U.S. dollar and shifting monetary policy expectations.

Markets are watching for further signals on China’s currency strategy, particularly as global central banks adjust interest rate outlooks. The yuan’s strength may influence regional trade flows and capital movements.
