German medtech firm expands portfolio with Spanish FES devices targeting stroke and MS rehabilitation, deal expected to close in six months.
Ottobock has agreed to acquire Fesia Technology, a Spanish developer of functional electrical stimulation (FES) orthoses, to strengthen its neuro-orthotics offerings. The transaction, involving investors Fik Advanlife and Basque Fondo De Capital Riesgo, is set to finalize within six months, though financial details remain undisclosed.
Fesia’s wearable FES devices address neuromuscular conditions linked to stroke, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy by stimulating weakened muscles. Its product lineup includes Fesia Walk for foot drop correction and Fesia Grasp for hand movement restoration, both controlled via a customizable smartphone app.
The acquisition aims to scale Fesia’s innovations globally, according to Fesia CEO Haritz Zabaleta, positioning Ottobock to set new standards in neurorehabilitation.
